Remarks & Notes |
A local commuter train from the bustling districts to the north of Vietnam's capital Hanoi (possibly Kep or Thai Nguyen) trundles across the famous Long Bien or Paul-Doumer Bridge over the Red River on June 14, 2006. The dilapidated steel cantilever bridge, once the longest and most impressive in Asia, was the target of continual bombardment by the US Air Force during the Vietnam War (or "American War" as the Vietnamese refer to the conflict) due to its strategic importance. |
