Reflecting on Decades of Service
As a result of the efforts put forth by the Tri-State Railway Historical Society and the Morristown & Erie Railway both M&E 19/18 were lashed up together for one last excursion. The excursion was part of M&E 19's handoff from the Morristown & Erie to Tri-State and was available to ride for any members of the organization. The public was treated to a ceremony held at the Whippany Railway Museum and then had the opportunity to chase the iconic red ALCO pair one last time on the entire Whippany Line.
The board of Tri-State Railway Historical society made a bold move by purchasing this locomotive from the M&E and keeping it from scrap allowing future generations to behold what many of us have grown use to over the years on the M&E. The locomotive will be stored at the URHS Boonton Yard facility and will see various special trips in the near future under Tri-State Ownership. Kudos to everyone who made the event possible to send this workhorse of the Morristown & Erie off in the grandest of fashion. |
