Remarks & Notes |
Aside from that local bread, another South Bend tradition through the end of the 1960s was the sight of the South Shore Line's big heavyweight interurbans on the streets of downtown South Bend. This Chicago-bound two-car train was loading passengers in front of the South Shore's streetfront station on a summer night in 1969. Within a year this trackage would be be shut down, and the line would be cut back to the end of private right-of-way at Bendix on the outskirts of the city. |
