On a fall afternoon, Amtrak's southbound Adirondack has arrived at Albany-Rensselaer station, where D&H PA 17 and the dome car will come off and the coaches will be forwarded to Grand Central Terminal behind Amtrak power. Six months after this photo as taken, a Rohr Turbo like the one in the background replaced the classic D&H equipment on this run.
The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
