Dropping back to the Fifth Subdivision main line with eight tank cars from a petroleum facility at Logan, Montana, is Montana Rail Link’s 844 local on June 26, 2017. The tank cars on the rear of the train sitting on the main will be spotted up at the plant next. Milwaukee Road’s line to Bozeman crossed here on an overpass, and this steep connection serves as access to a short part of its line was reconstructed recently to serve this fairly new facility built right next to Milwaukee’s abandoned grade. The local is powered by two of MRL’s GP35s, Nos. 402 and 403. No. 403 is no stranger to steep grades being a former Rio Grande locomotive—but MRL No. 402 is former DT&I No. 355, equipped without dynamic brakes!
