Wisconsin Central train No. 19 approaches Van Dyne, Wisconsin, (north of North Fond du Lac’s Shops yard) on a wintery February 27, 1995. A good assortment of WC EMD locomotives power the westbound (northbound) train—SD45 No. 6598, former Santa Fe F45 No. 5972, former C&NW/FRV GP9 No. 4505, GP35 No. 723, rounded out with a SW1500 and a SW1200.
Freight Cowls are standard locomotives that have a hood that extends the full width of the locomotive. Sadly, most Freight Cowls have been retired, but a few still run on short lines.
