Remarks & Notes |
The so called "Island Line" on the Isle of Wight is a curious operation. Since the electrification of the line old, refurbished stock from the London Tube is in service to the a low profile in the tunnel under the town of Ryde. Currently Class 483 stock is in service which is based on Tube Stock from 1938, rebuilt for the Island Line in 1989.
One end of the Line sits at the end of Ryde Pier where connecting ferries are available to the town of Portsmouth.
Here we see 483 004 running on the pier stretch of the line. The pier consists of a street, two abandoned tracks of the former pier tramway and then two tracks (currently only one used) for the Island Line. |
