Although CSX power is frequently seen on NS rails between Big Stone Gap, Va. and Frisco, Tenn. via NS trackage rights, it's unusual to see CSX power on the ex-Interstate Railroad's mine runs. On a dreary, drizzly, foggy fall day, CSX power, part of a J77 pusher set, leads empties on NS U47 mine run at Cane Patch on the ex-IRR's Pardee Branch. The empties are destined for loading at Cumberland River Coal's loadout at Whitfield, located about a mile south of Pardee. Once loaded, U47 will be leading the loads upgrade to Norton, Va.
