Remarks & Notes |
Three big Alco C630s are crossing the Schuylkill River at West Falls with what appears to be a Port Reading coal train on a typical late winter day. The 5303 East is beginning the 0.8% climb to Nicetown Jct. and the New York Short Line. Note the armstrong lever rods that reach across the river from the 1890s vintage "FS" Tower, located at the opposite end of the bridge. The line curving off to the left is the east leg of the West Falls wye and was utilized by B&Os traffic between Philadelphia and Jersey City. The Reading had a really nice second generation locomotive scheme; and the railroad was a sharp operation with many fine employees. |
