Before taking delivery of seven AEM7’s, SEPTA wanted to test one of the electrics on the Reading side of its service, to see if that electrical infrastructure, which was much less robust than the PRR’s. Amtrak AEM7 923 was borrowed, and given a train of original Reading MU cars to provide additional load to the circuits. Apparently the tests were successful, as the AEM7’s did show up in Lansdale.
