Remarks & Notes |
Santa Fe's first ever GP9 still kicking it. It's just after 10:00 a.m. this morning in Kings Park and the temperature is already hovering above 90 degrees. Soaking up the hot summer sun at one of the grain facilities located south of Hanford is the AARX 26, a 61-year-old GP9u living out its days as a grain car shuttling unit. Built in 1956 as ATSF 700 for the Santa Fe, this unit was the class unit for the railroads first GP9's before it would go on to be renumbered ATSF 2260 some years later. Somehow always managing to find work near home rails, this unit has seen its share of grain facilities up and down the Central Valley before finding its way here to Kings Park...where who knows how long it will remain at before it moves on to another one! |
