Steam locomotives 556 0 are among the most advanced freight locomotives of Czechoslovak origin and also the most numerous type of steam locomotives in the Czech Republic. They were manufactured in Pilsen Škoda in 1951-1958 in a total of 510 pieces. They were designed for the heaviest freight trains on main lines throughout Czechoslovakia. At the end of the operation, they also took on minor operations on the secondary lines, where they exited until the end of the steam operation in 1981. Several locomotives were preserved as historical and two machines are kept in operational condition as museum vehicles - machines number 036 and just captured 556 0506 |
