Remarks & Notes
A Flicker of the Santa Fe Returns to Redondo Jct....and its not the restored 4-8-4 we're all familiar with either. Yes indeed, a small flicker of the Santa Fe has appeared at Redondo Junction in the form of Pacific Harbor Line No. 64. Resting on one of the whisker tracks adjacent to the original Santa Fe, 1927-built turntable, the "Zebra Stripe" paint scheme on the unit harks back to the days the once powerful railroad owned and maintained its fleet of passenger locomotives here in-between their local and cross country trips. Today, under the ownership of Amtrak, this heritage of passenger operations continues on a daily basis - although the paint schemes of the locomotives that are serviced here have forever changed. It's through sporadic visits of PHL units like the No. 64 on this evening and the faded "Get the Safety Habit" logo still hanging on to the side of the turntable that even with so many changes having taken place over the years, the historically significance of the location's original owner can still be felt for a few minutes with the right farming and a little imagination.
