Made In Paducah
How many can say that a museum had bought an Illinois Central Locomotive, and run it as is, even in it's last paint scheme before retirement. IC 8733 started its career as IC 9386 a GP9 built by Electro Motive Division in Dec 1958, and was use all over the system where ever the locomotive was needed. In March of 1980 the GP9 was send to the Illinois Central's Paducah Shops, where it was one of 400 or so locomotives that was rebuilt in the GP10, and GP11 dub the name "Paducah Rebuilds." In 8733 full road service years it wore every Illinois Central/Illinois Central Gulf paint scheme to it's current paint scheme. In 2000 the GP11 was taken out of service, and was put into storage by the Canadian Nation Railway, till it's official retirement. In July of 2001, the CNIC donated the locomotive to the Monticello railway Museum, where it's is use for operation purpose for the Museum. A Special Thanks to Paul Nelson Master Mechanic, and other Member of the Monticello Museum for pulling the historic piece of equipment out for photos, and giving us the grand tour of the Museum
