My father made many business trips to the Twin Cities in the early 1970s and made the most of those opportunities to photograph rail operations in the metropolitan area. One of his favorite places to take pictures was Westminster Junction in St. Paul with its dense patchwork of tracks. He took this picture from the Lafayette Road bridge of an early Amtrak Empire Builder in the early morning. Now that Amtrak has taken over, this train will travel to Chicago over the Milwaukee Road. Perhaps Tom Flarence was the fireman on this train through Wisconsin. Richard T. Steinbrenner Photo
