Remarks & Notes |
Late on a cold winter afternoon, a car knocker waits to make the connections as Amtrak E60CP 975 backs onto a Washington-bound corridor train at New Haven, replacing the F40 that brought the train down from Boston. The extension of electrification to Boston greatly reduced but did not completely eliminate this ritual that has been conducted daily since 1914, as Springfield Line trains continue to swap engines here.
