Amtrak’s Vermonter crossing from Vermont into New Hampshire at Windsor, VT/Cornish, NH. In the background is the 1866-built 450-foot Cornish–Windsor Covered Bridge, listed as the longest wooden covered bridge, that has the longest single covered span to carry automobile traffic.
The successor to the Montrealer, the Vermonter runs between St. Albans, Vt., and Washington, DC. Much of the northern part of the route runs along the Connecticut and White Rivers.
