Top Ten of 2017. With 2017 in the books, here's a look back at my Top 10 favorite shots from the past year. 6. Our spur-of-the-moment trip this year was a jaunt to coal country, once it was announced that two specially-painted locomotives would lead the annual Santa Train on the former Clinchfield main line in Kentucky and Virginia. Thanks to work commitments, it would entail an overnight drive from New Jersey Friday night, a nap in an Elkhorn City parking lot for a couple of hours and then a drive home from Kingsport on Saturday evening.
In between all that driving, we managed a decent chase, finally breaking away from the huge crowds that followed the train by shooting at this S-curve at Boody siding. Only one other photographer was here to see Clinchfield F7A (originally an F3) 800 and SD45 3632 ease through the curves between stops at Dante and St. Paul.
