Remarks & Notes |
Calling on San Luis Obispo...One Last Time. After serving the Santa Fe and Amtrak for more than 60 combined years...the final day of revenue service for the Pacific Parlour cars has arrived. Beginning life in 1956 for the Santa Fe as cafe cars on the El Capitan, five of these cars would go on to be converted into the Parlour cars they are today in 1995 as an enhancement for sleeping car passengers aboard the popular Starlight. As with many things in life, 25 years soared by...and now the Parlour Cars last day has finally arrived. In this scene at the San Luis Obispo station, two of five famed Parlour cars - the AMTK 39972 "Columbia Valley" and the AMTK 39970 "Napa Valley" - cool their heels prior to rolling out the last 200 miles to Los Angeles where their retirement awaits them. |
