Remarks & Notes |
Utah Ry. 6060 west is bringing an empty coal train over Soldier Summit and in the process is overtaking a BNSF trackage rights manifest train stopped on track #1. The BNSF train followed the Utah Ry. train westbound down the pass. Those 2 BNSF engines are the DPU helpers. There are a couple of unusual things about this shot. First are all of those westbound empty coal hoppers. I assume they were pulled out of storage somewhere around Helper and are moving west to “who knows where.” Second is that UTAH SD50 leading the empties. This is only the second time I have seen one of these Aussie SD50’s leading. A rare occurrence, but not unheard of as I have a shot of this same #6060 leading an empty oil train in August 2010. |
