The Deseret Power Ry. in western Colorado and eastern Utah has exactly one at grade crossing of a public road in it’s entire 35 mile length. This level crossing is of unpaved Moffat County Road 61, the Deserado Mine Road, and is about 2 or 3 miles from the loadout. If you are thinking that this railroad is in a really remote area, you are correct. The crossing is protected by regular crossing gates with flashing lights and a bell (all solar powered), although the bell was not working the last time I was there. The area of this road crossing is also the location of two high tension power lines which cross above the railroad just west of the road crossing. In my mind all the poles and wires make for a pretty cluttered view for photographing eastbound empty trains. In all my years of shooting the DPR I have never taken a picture at the crossing, until 2 days ago (03/20/18). It actually turned out better than I expected.
