| The old and the new....this is the 1st time I ever done the Iowa River Railroad. This small operation hasn't been very interesting to me with a wrong facing GP30 and a beatup switcher. That has been the power for a very long time here, but with the expansion of the plant more power was recently added to help move cars. This railroad works this old ex-M&St.L line between the Pine Lake Ethanol Plant near Cleves and Ackley to interchange with the CN. Recently they added this GP38 in this new colorful IARR paint scheme. I been wanting to get this setup now they got something worth seeing!. Unfortunately the GP38 is down and waiting for someone to come and fix it. So the GP30 did the Ackley Turn today.
The IARR began operation in 2006 with operations between Marshalltown and Ackley, but in 2012 the south end was abandoned and this short 9 mile section was kept for the ethanol plant operations. |
