Remarks & Notes |
DB class 042 oil-fired 2-8-2 No 042 360-8 heads north from Meppen with a miixed freight on the Rheine to Emden line as the evening mist begins to rise. This engine was built by Arnold Jung Lokomotivfabrik GmbH and entered traffic in July 1940 less than three weeks before I was born. It was rebuilt by Henschel in 1958 with new high-performance boiler and converted to oil firing. Withdrawn from service at the end of DB steam in May 1977 it was saved by Dampflok-Tradition Oberhausen e. V., Oberhausen and is still a main line runner. |
