Remarks & Notes
The newest train of the SBB, "Giruno" RABe 501 # 005, is crossing a viaduct from 1875. The 332 meter long and 42 meter high viaduct over the Thur river between Ossingen and Thalheim-Altikon with a main span of 72 meter was inaugurated in 1875 as part of the railway line from Winterthur to Etzwilen. The "Giruno" is on a test drive for torsional vibration testing. This single track line has only few traffic (one regional train per hour and direction) and many curves of medium radius, the track speed is between 80 and 95 km/h. Another train of this series, # 004, set a new speed record for a swiss train in Switzerland, with 275 km/h (170,8 miles per hour) in the Gotthard Base Tunnel some days ago. The nominal maximum speed of the Giruno is 250 km/h.
