Remarks & Notes |
The final passenger train to be operated by the Saratoga & North Creek Railway and perhaps the last train ever to operate over this historic ex- D&H branch passes through Stony Creek, NY along the Hudson River on its return trip to Saratoga, NY.
The significance of this rail line in American history cannot be understated for it was at the North Creek depot on Sept. 14, 1901 that Teddy Roosevelt received the news of President McKinley's death and that he was to become the next President of the United States. A special train took him immediately to Buffalo the next day where he took the oath of office. |
