A westbound BNSF Denver to Tacoma stack train rumbles through Cyr, Montana, on the afternoon of September 23, 2006. The train is powered by a pair of EMD SD40-2s painted in Heritage I livery, with lead locomotive No. 6800 the former Santa Fe “snoot” No. 5116.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
