Remarks & Notes |
The West Burlington Shops was the heart of the BN heavy locomotive repair and rebuild dating back to 1883. The shops were closed in 2004 by BNSF and everything moved to Galesburg and other shops. Not much goes on at "West B" anymore and the 250,000 square feet main shops sits idle. The BNSF does still own the shops. Couple rotary power F-units sit outside the shops out back. Sounds like they have been there a long time.
A large work block on the Transcon for bridge projects this weekend has a few detours running via the Ottumwa Sub. This Galesburg to Kansas City freight is one of the detours and has just rumble out of the Mississippi River Valley at Burlington, and now will get going west towards next crew change at Creston.
