Burlington Northern train No. 110 cruises long the mighty Mississippi River at Genoa, Wisconsin, on October 15, 1995. The train is powered by EMD SD40-2 No. 7013, with a Santa Fe GP60B and BN GP10 (rebuilt GP7) trailing. The train is heading downriver after changing crews at La Crosse, but a tug with barges has just passed through U.S. Lock and Dam No. 8 churns its way upstream. Wisconsin Highway 35, the “Great River Road” follows the big river through here, while the old highway through Genoa is now Main Street. No drone used here—hiking boots and a good climb up one the the Mississippi River valley’s numerous bluffs provided the vista.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
