A bad order traction motor is in the process of being changed out on Union Pacific GE AC4400CW No. 6300 at the railroad’s locomotive shop in South Morrill, Nebraska, on September 14, 2017. Using an overhead crane, a newly rebuilt traction motor is now being placed over the drop pit onto the transfer table. The axle/traction motor will then be lowered and moved under the 6300, and then raised into position so it can be installed back into the truck. Note that the wheels are used—the specific rebuilt traction motor assembly chosen is based on the amount of wheel tread left, as it has to match the other two wheels in the truck to similar measurement tolerances.
