Remarks & Notes |
A night portrait of Deutsche Reichsbahn's electric locomotive Class 218 #031-3 on the turntable of the loco shed "Bw Halle P". This electric locomotive was built by AEG Berlin in 1937 as Class E 18 #31. There were a total of 55 locomotives built. The locomotives which operated later for the Deutsche Reichsbahn (East Germany) were renumbered as Class 218 in 1970. This locomotive was modified at the VES-M Halle of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (Versuchs- und Entwicklungsstelle Maschinenwirtschaft, in English: railway research and development department) and converted to reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h (110 mph). It belongs to the "Verkehrsmuseum Dresden" ("Dresden Transport Museum"). Deutsche Reichsbahn's 2-10-0 Decapod steam locomotive 52 #9900-3, the only preserved locomotive out of a series of 25 Class 52 locomotives which were converted to brown coal firing, can be seen in the background. |
