Remarks & Notes |
This image looks like yet another shot of a D&RGW SD40T-2 in the Helper, Utah yard. But, for this dyed in the wool Rio Grande fan it was a good bye of sorts. RP poster James Belmont and I had heard that this day’s Dirt Train was to be the 5371’s last revenue trip and we met here in Helper to see it. The 5371 was the very last un patched and un renumbered D&RGW unit left on the UP roster; a true last survivor. We took shots in the yard as it moved around and prepared to get on the main line and run down to Wash and pick up its train. Then chased it out to Mounds for our final shots. It is now resting at the Utah State Railroad Museum in Ogden. |
