Canadian National 571 clings to the cliff as it climbs out of Fountain. The train is about to punch thru the rock wall on the left of the photo thru a short tunnel. The grade north of Fountain is 2%+ with curves up to 14 degrees. The train today has two big GE AC traction locomotives on the headend... behind the power is bulkheads for one of the mills near Williams Lake. The gondolas are for copper concentrate from the mines north of Williams Lake. The boxcars are likely to be loaded with pulpwood for mills near Vancouver.... |
