A loaded sand train off the Tomah Sub east of LaCrosse does some short street running as they pass thru Lansing along the Mississippi River. The train is 27 miles from Marquette. Sand is probably one of the biggest customers along this route. It is amazing how much traffic can run over this route from Marquette to LaCrescent in one day. With ethanol, sand, coal, and oil, this end of the Marquette Sub can get real busy at times with bulk trains. However trains out of Mason City will sometimes run south or north out of Marquette depending on how CP feels that day.
