Steam Returns to Santa Paula. On a cool, summer morning in the Santa Clarita River Valley...the sound of a Southern Pacific, 6-chime whistle could be heard piercing the stillness of the air in the town of Santa Paula. Triumphantly returning revenue service on this section of the Fillmore & Western Railway's trackage, FWRY No .14 had the duties of deadheading and pulling all three revenue trains today. Operating out of Santa Paula rather than Fillmore, the equipment departed Fillmore at 8AM sharp. Crossing over the newly installed bridge just west of "The Loose Caboose" that had caused rail service to be severed here for more than a year and a half, the train eased into Santa Paula with an eager crowd at the station there to greet it. As No. 14 pulled the train into Santa Paula backwards, the crew ran the 1913-built product of Baldwin around the train at the depot. With the run around complete, the locomotive is seen here backing onto its train with the Southern Pacific's original 1887-built depot in the background.
