Remarks & Notes |
The Sun Sets On Three Generations of Power. As Amtrak 785 drops downgrade off the Redondo Flyover with an endangered F59PHi on the rear, a freshly washed AMTK 507 and Santa Fe 3751's tender share the splendid last light at the famed turntable here. While Santa Fe 3751 continues to operate thanks to the hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours put in by the crew of the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society, AMTK 507 and AMTK 451's days operating under Amtrak appear to slowly be coming to a close as more and more Siemens Chargers enter the locomotive roster. At the very least, the 451's days are even shorter than the 507's as all of the Pacific Surfliner F59PHi's have been sold to Metra and are slowly but surely making their way back east via the Southwest Chief. |
