“I’ve just got to get there.” That’s what a friend of mine says sarcastically whenever he encounters someone in a hurry for no apparent reason. This is a good example of it. The road to East Portal doesn’t go anywhere beyond the parking lot at the tunnel portal, or a few more miles over an extremely rough dirt road on the grade of the Denver & Salt Lake Railway up toward Rollins Pass. Either way, it’s a dead end, and this guy has to be in enough of a hurry to begin his hike or whatever, to cross in front of a downgrade Union Pacific coal load. Morons aside, it’s a beautiful day in the high country at East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel on the morning of September 15, 2018.
