Generations Collide. On a warm morning in Los Angeles, a pair of newly delivered SC-44 "Charger" locomotives sit on the turntable's whisker tracks as they wait for their chance to take to the high iron. Meanwhile in the bound ground, AMTK 795 catches the morning light. After first seeing service on the Milwaukee Road as MILW 2028, the SW was renumbered to 707 before going to SOO. The engine would go on to be rebuilt from an SW1200 to an SW1000R in 1994 before coming to Amtrak where it has served out the remainder of its career as 795. The unit was last used in 2009-2010 before being unoffically "retired," giving way power like the B32-8BWH and AMTK 591, an MP21B.
