An eastbound BNSF Z train crosses the long single-track bridge over Lake Pend Oreille between Algoma and Sandpoint, Idaho, on the sunny afternoon of October 6, 2018. After a couple of false starts, BNSF is again looking at constructing a new bridge here, finally providing a two-track main line through this busy part of the “funnel” on BNSF’s Pend Oreille Subdivision between Spokane and Sandpoint, where tonnage divides at the junction with Montana Rail Link and Kootenai River Subdivision main line to the east.
