Passengers have begun boarding the 12:30pm "Royal Gorge Route" excursion on a beautiful autumn afternoon in Colorado. It was good to see the F7s back in service on this train. According to the crew they are prone to throwing sparks (note the spark arrestors on both units) and are used more frequently during cooler-weather months when the fire risk decreases. The uniformly painted power and consist look right at home on this former Rio Grande route.

While Colorado's narrow gauge steam railroads are the major draw, the state is also home to several diesel-powered tourist railroads that take passengers to the Royal Gorge and other sites.
