Remarks & Notes |
Canadian Pacific was first thru Black Canyon on the tracks across the Thompson River. The CP originally skirted this difficult outcropping with a temporary trestle and rail bed . The original trestle pilings can still be seen above the fourth hopper. Later in 1915 the Canadian Northern Pacific built thru the defile. Shortly after construction the tunnel collapsed... The CNP already failing financially, went bankrupt on this disaster. I learned this information from a fantastic artiicle in th August 1988 CTC Board "The Fraser & Thompson, BEYOND HOPE" by Mark Hemphill and Dale Sanders.... Thank you guys for the fascinating article! |
