Remarks & Notes |
Behind a hodgepodge of four-axle EMD power, Decatur & Eastern Illinois railroad's 101 road freight splits the small town of Newman in half as it works east over ex-CSXT trackage with a hefty 78 cars on the drawbars. The crew of today's Paris bound train would make the turn south on the old Danville Secondary at Chrisman before spinning the handbrake wheels south of town and cabbing back to Decatur. A crew out of Paris would later come get the train and take it the rest of the way in. Part of the Watco family of shortlines, the DREI officially began operations on September 8th of 2018 after acquiring 126 miles of track between Decatur and Terre Haute, IN previously sold off by the CSXT. Engineer Rivera proudly waves "Old Glory" from the handrails of his black and yellow painted EMD GP40-2LW. |
