Remarks & Notes |
10 panoramic railcars of the X4200 class have been built by Renault in 1959 and numbered X4201 to X4210. These railcars were very modern at that time due to an improved passenger comfort compared to all other railcars from the similar period. Their particularity was of course the raised compartment and glazed at 360 °, offering an excellent vision to the 44 seats in the first class. The wide use of plastics was also an innovation. The X4200 railcars were mainly used in the "Cévennes", on the lines from Marseille to Clermont-Ferrand. They also circulated in the Provence region in the south of France. They were assigned to the depots of Marseille-St Charles, Marseille-Blancarde and finally Nîmes. The SNCF X4208 has been withdrawn from active service on June 12, 1985. AGRIVAP then bought the Panoramic X4208 the same year and repainted it in the green and cream livery. It has been put back into service in 1986 on the Livradois-Forez line. |
