Looking like a model on a well-scenicked model railroad, UP 9108 West approaches the east portal of tunnel 9 deep in the Feather River Canyon. Rock slides in this area are common, and UP routinely has hi-railers on line the checking for problems ahead of trains. The westbound's speed is restricted here, but once she reaches the Sacramento Valley at Oroville, her engineer will quickly have her doing 70 mph.
