HLCX 665 is one of a series of GP40s rebuilt for Amtrak service with "pass-through" HEP. These units were an interim measure to relieve a power shortage. While most units were painted in Amtrak "phase III" paint, 665 and sister unit 666 were added later to cover for other units that were failing prematurely. It must have been sent to the NYS&W for its first assignment after rebuilding. It seen here parked at PC Yard, perhaps after being interchanged by Conrail. The unit shows hardly any signs of wear. The extra connections for MU and HEP pass-through are very obvious. As of early 2019, this unit is still in service as WAMX 4036, assigned to Watco's South Kansas & Oklahoma RR.
