Remarks & Notes |
Far away from home rails, CDTX 2051 and three San Joaquin/Capitol Corridor cars bring up the rear of Amtrak 761 as it skirts the Pacific Ocean at Emma Wood State Beach. The extra equipment comes following a call for help from the Pacific Surfliner agency as trains swelled with passengers trying to travel between points on the central/southern coast of California. The deadly mudslides in Monteicto shut down US 101 for nearly two weeks, making the railroad the only viable transportation option for people to turn to. Even the mail traveled by train during this time, harking back to the days entire train cars could be found on trains serving as the post-office on wheels. |
