Remarks & Notes
On an early spring morning the sound of dynamics echos off the bluffs of the mountain as eastbound CR SERE-4 descends the ruling 1.65% grade at the “Twin Ledges” at MP-131.5. A favorite spot for photographers deep in the Berkshires. The train will cross the winding Westfield River on its eastward journey to Chester and on to New England. I am very thankful I made these pilgrimages to this historic section of the railroad during the Conrail era in the early ‘90s.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
