A pair of Chicago & North Western EMD SD40-2s cross the long bridge over Little Lake Butte Des Morts at Menasha, Wisconsin, on June 27, 1993. This is officially a Fox River Valley Railroad train using C&NW power, which happened frequently in this era. The lake might be ‘little,’ but the water is high, as it was nearly everywhere in the flooded upper midwest in mid 1993. Normally I shot this bridge from the pier in the foreground which is well under water. Unfortunately, unless you want to walk or cycle across this bridge, this part of the C&NW line to Green Bay is abandoned onto the bridge and north, now called the “Friendship Trail.”
