Remarks & Notes |
A former UP/CNW GP38-2 leads a westbound GC L782 by the Lyons depot on a warm March Afternoon. The Lyons depot was built in 1930 and served the Seabord Airline Railroad. Passenger service was offered by the Seaboard until the late 1940s and since then its been all freight except for the SAM Shortline Excursions that ran the line between Savannah and Cordele in the early 2000s. The only stop the train would make would be in Vidalia where they would lay over for a few hours to let passengers tour the shops of downtown Vidalia. The last train passenger train to pass the depot was in 2014 when the SAM partnered with the GC to run excursions during the Bellville Centennial celebration. |
