2019's winter was a tough one for all the railroads in the Midwest. A major storm hit on Saturday February 23rd. The storm dump rain, ice, and snow, followed by blizzard like winds. B41 left out of Mason City to plow to Spencer on that Sunday night. West of Cylinder the crew hit ice on this diagonal crossing and the plow went into the ditch at speed. As you can see the plow still sits out here in the ditch probably waiting for spring scraping. The melting and ice that has come with these storms has been hard on alot of plows for different railroads. The crew got alittle lucky here cause sometime the power will follow the plow into the ditch! B41 setout their plow today for the same reason at Britt after multiple derailments. Now they are working west to Spencer using the power to break open the railroad.
**Side note** that plow is facing the opposite way it was going before the derailment!
