Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation NW5 #4 hauls a string of tanker cars from the company plant at Saltville, Virginia, on April 8, 1971. #4 was one of only 13 NW5s produced by EMD from December of 1946 to February of 1947. It started its life as Fort Street Union Depot #1 of Detroit, Michigan, until being retired and sold to Olin in 1962. Later, Olin removed its steam generator and subsequently chopped its nose making it look more like a modern Genset than an EMD. Rear view slide taken by Joe Brockmeyer in the collection of Nick A. Jobe.
